Position Summary:
The RT Vent Field Clinician is a Respiratory Therapist providing respiratory patient care to Vent patients for optimal outcomes. Provides respiratory care to patients in alternate sites in accordance with AdaptHealth's policies and procedures. Respiratory care will be preventative, rehabilitative, and palliative in nature. The RT will utilize all resources available within the agency and community to accomplish care objectives. This position will provide education and care to the patient and communicate with team members, physicians, referral sources, and other patient agencies to ensure prompt attention to patient care issues.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:
- Utilizes various sources of information to enhance competence, including attending educational events and asking questions.
- Uses acquired knowledge to increase competencies.
- Completes documentation and charting procedures in compliance with company policies.
- Maintains accurate patient files and updates documents regularly.
- Reviews Plan of Treatments and Care Plans for accuracy and currency.
- Documents procedures, patient tolerance, side effects, and relevant information.
- Assists with authorization for Ventilator referrals.
- Displays knowledge of respiratory equipment and clinical skills during set-ups, follow-ups, and in-services.
- Participates in discharge planning for complex cases.
- Performs clinical assessments and reports results and recommendations.
- Prepares patients and caregivers for smooth transitions during discharges.
- Provides in-services to hospital staff and professionals regarding equipment and clinical issues.
- Follows up with physicians and referrals, ensuring timely documentation.
- Adheres to procedures for PPE, infection control, and hazardous materials handling.
- Promotes AdaptHealth through program development, operational support, and educational activities.
- Assumes on-call responsibilities outside of normal hours as per policy.
- Evaluates ventilator patient records post-setup, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of ventilator technology and supplies supported by AdaptHealth.
- Demonstrates and instructs on vent unit use; makes patient decisions based on data and assessments.
- Communicates effectively with team, physicians, and referral sources.
- Maintains knowledge of payer guidelines, including Medicare/Medicaid.
- Documents care activities, interventions, and communications accurately and timely.
- Ensures recommendations and orders are acknowledged and followed up promptly.
- Supports data collection for outcomes tracking and third-party reimbursement documentation.
- Educates referral sources on best practice standards.
- Collaborates proactively with team members to resolve issues and optimize outcomes.
- Serves as a resource on practices and processes, providing guidance.
- Develops and maintains knowledge of current HME products and services.
- Maintains patient confidentiality following HIPAA guidelines.
- Completes required compliance and educational training.
- Performs other duties as assigned during or outside normal hours.
Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with ventilator patients.
- Competent in ventilator, airway clearance, and oxygen therapy management.
- Ability to perform clinical assessments and troubleshoot equipment.
- Strong decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Quick learner with technical aptitude for new technologies.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements at all levels.
- Adaptable, patient, proactive, and team-oriented.
Requirements:
- Associates degree from an AMA-approved respiratory program.
- Valid unrestricted RT license in all serviced states.
- CPR certification.
- At least 1 year of clinical experience as a healthcare RT or with vent experience.
- Valid driver's license.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Lift up to 50 pounds, stand, bend, sit for extended periods.
- Perform CPR and repetitive upper extremity movements.
- Work in various home environments, possibly stressful or hazardous.
