Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Respiratory Therapist Vascular Access to join a skilled team delivering specialized cardiopulmonary care. You will independently provide and maintain vascular access as ordered by a physician, including central lines, PICCs, and arterial lines, while ensuring patient safety.

You will use ultrasound guidance, maintain sterile technique, review orders and imaging, document in EMR, and participate in routine and emergent care.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of Respiratory experience.
  • Trained in central line insertion.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner: AZ (RCP).
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Review orders, patient history, and labs to determine appropriate line placement.
  • Obtains consent and provides patient education regarding line insertion and care.
  • Inserts and maintains lines including dressings, line reviews, port access, and declotting.
  • Uses ultrasound guidance to ensure accurate placement and maintains sterile field.
  • Review chest x-ray or imaging to confirm line placement and document in EMR.
  • Accesses and maintains infusion ports as needed.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Respiratory Therapist Vascular Access, you will join an established team of RTs who share your passion for delivering highly specialized cardiopulmonary care to patients experiencing breathing issues. You'll be instrumental in independently providing and maintaining vascular Access as ordered by a Physician. This could include any of the following: Central Lines, Peripherally inserted Central Catheter (PICC), Peripheral lines, Midlines, Dialysis Catheters, Arterial lines and IVs

Every day you will apply your keen assessment skills and critical thinking to manage diverse patient needs, develop and execute effective care plans, and ensure calm, focused intervention in both routine and emergent situations.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a strong sense of urgency, unwavering calm under pressure, and the ability to anticipate outcomes. Your dedication to patient well-being and exceptional problem-solving abilities will drive success in this vital role.

  • Review Physician orders, patient’s history and labs to determine appropriate line placement to be utilized for the procedure, identifies potential issues or risk factors that may impede the patient being a viable candidate or may require alternative vascular access.
  • Obtains consent to perform the procedure for the appropriate line. Provide patient teaching/education regarding the line insertion, care and maintenance,
  • Inserts and maintains appropriate lines per Policy, to include dressing changes, line review, port access and de-clotting.
  • Utilizes ultrasound technology to ensure accurate insertion. Maintains sterile field throughout the entire procedure. Determines accurate placement and receives or provides clearance of the line via appropriate method. Maintains accurate, timely and appropriate documentation in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Review chest x –ray to ensure accurate placement of Central lines. Utilize Sherlock 3CG+TCS display or Chest X-ray to ensure accurate placement of PICC lines.
  • Accesses and maintains infusion ports when needed
Job Requirements
  • 5 years of Respiratory experience.
  • Trained in Central line insertion.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner: AZ (RCP)

    • Basic Life Support - CPR
