Job summary

UPMC Washington is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join our dedicated team. You will read prescriptions, assess patient needs, and determine therapy types and durations under physician orders. Rotating days, weekends, and holidays from 7 AM to 7 PM, with a generous sign-on bonus of up to $20,000 for eligible candidates who commit to two years.

Qualifications

• Preference for critical care experience in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Read prescription and assess patient condition to determine therapy type and duration.
• Set up and operate ventilators and related equipment for therapy.
• Monitor patient responses to therapy including vital signs and ABGs.
• Supervise students during training and consult physicians on adverse reactions.
• Ensure modifications align with physician orders and safety precautions.

• *Candidates will be hired into the appropriate title, pay range, and sign-on bonus based on qualifications.

Responsibilities:

• Reads prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment, such as type and duration of therapy, and medication dosages.
• Determines most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with physician's orders
• Supervises students during training.
• Sets up and operates devices, such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
• Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment, such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients.
• Observes equipment function and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy.
• Evaluates the appropriateness of medical orders.
• Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes.
• Performs bronchopulmonary drainage and assists patient in performing breathing exercises.
• Consults with physician in the event of adverse reactions.

Preferred Experience:

Critical care experience.

Schedule:

Rotating days, weekends, and holidays. 7AM-7PM.
