Job summary

Northwell is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to clinically evaluate patients and deliver respiratory care under supervision. The role involves working with a multidisciplinary team in a major health system serving New York and Connecticut.

Responsibilities include administering therapies, oxygen, ventilation support, and contributing to care planning. Requires pursuing AMA-approved respiratory program progress and BLS/CPR certification.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an AMA approved Respiratory program for certification in respiratory care.
  • Degree requirements include an Associate's or Bachelor's degree as appropriate for the program.

Responsibilities

  • Independently administers pharmacologic and therapeutic agents related to respiratory care as prescribed by a physician.
  • Administers basic oxygen therapy and coordinates with RCP for advanced oxygen therapy.
  • Develops and implements a care plan based on patient assessment with the healthcare team.
  • Assists in mechanical ventilation and maintains stock of equipment with pre-use checks.
  • Observes and documents signs and symptoms to assess treatment response.
  • Promotes ongoing learning and professional development as a team member.
  • Collaborates across clinical settings to provide quality service.
  • Demonstrates competence to meet age-specific needs in respiratory care.
  • Participates in training to pursue RRT certification.

Summary

Responsible for clinical evaluation of patient and delivery of respiratory care as required under the supervision a Respiratory Care Practitioner.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Independently administers pharmacologic and therapeutic agents related to respiratory care procedures necessary to implement a treatment, disease prevention, or a diagnostic regimen prescribed by a physician. Obtains arterial blood gases
  • 2. Independently administers basic oxygen therapy. Confers with licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner for advanced oxygen therapy such as high flow nasal cannula.
  • 3. Confers with a licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in developing and implementing an appropriate care plan based on patient assessment by utilizing respiratory protocols to optimize patient outcomes, in collaboration with healthcare team.
  • 4. Confers with a licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner for mechanical ventilation. Assists in maintaining stock of equipment and supplies, including the performance of pre-use checks on mechanical ventilators.
  • 5. Observes and monitors signs and symptoms, general behavior, general physical response to respiratory care treatment to determine whether abnormal characteristics are exhibited.
  • 6. Promotes continuous learning and expands expertise by engaging in and seeking opportunities to develop self and others as a member of the team.
  • 7. Works efficiently as a team member both within and across clinical settings to provide quality service within the hospital setting through communication, cooperation and collaboration.
  • 8. Demonstrates competence, including knowledge and behaviors, to meet age specific patients� needs in a specialty area.
  • 9. Participates in additional training and/or certification courses to develop expertise and skills toward certification as a RRT.
Other Information

Education:

Pursuing an Associates or Bachelors Degree from an AMA approved Respiratory program. New graduate or within 2 months* of graduation from an accredited Respiratory Care Program.

Experience

0-1 year of experience

Licensure, Certification, Registration Required:

Current Basic Life Support, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Certification

Salary Range: $19.54 - $37.94 Hourly
