Job summary

AdventHealth in Lake Wales, FL is seeking a Respiratory Therapist, Staff for a full-time 36-hour weekly shift (6:30a–7p). $47.60/hr plus differential, 13 weeks. Open availability with holidays required; no call.

The role delivers therapeutic respiratory care, monitors patients, and adjusts treatments per protocol. Requires Associate degree in Respiratory Care and NBRC credentials; BLS and RRT/CRT licenses preferred.

Qualifications

• Patient care across neonatal to geriatric populations.
• Ventilator management is preferred.
• Arterial line placements are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Delivers routine respiratory treatments and therapies including aerosol, lung expansion and oxygen therapy.
• Monitors, instructs, and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment.
• Adjusts therapies per protocol and documented criteria.
• Reevaluates ventilator interface every four hours and responds to alarms.
• Facilitates weaning and adjusts ventilator settings as patient progresses.
• Draws arterial/capillary blood gases and may place arterial lines; adjusts care accordingly.
• Recommends changes in respiratory plan of care per medical necessity and protocols.
• Ensures effective assessment and progress reassessment.
• Uses pulse oximetry, chest X-ray, labs and other data to guide care.
• Initiates and maintains mechanical ventilation and guides ventilator settings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Delivers routine respiratory treatments and continuous respiratory therapy including aerosol therapy, lung expansion therapy, oxygen therapy, and bronchial hygiene.
• Monitors, instructs, and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment delivery.
• Prevents and/or resolves untoward side effects and adjusts therapies according to protocol and documented clinical criteria.
• Reevaluates patient/ventilator interface a minimum of every four hours, responds to alarms, and troubleshoots as needed.
• Establishes weaning readiness and facilitates the weaning process, adjusting ventilator settings in accordance with patient progress.
• Draws and analyzes arterial and capillary blood gases, places arterial lines, and makes or recommends changes in respiratory management according to blood gas results.
• Recommends changes in respiratory plan of care according to documented medical necessity and within established protocols.
• Ensures the effectiveness of therapist assessment and reassessment by monitoring patient progress.
• Makes and/or recommends changes based on pulse oximetry, peak flow measurement, chest x-ray, lab work, and other data relevant to optimal patient progress.
• Initiates and maintains mechanical ventilation, determining or guiding the determination of ventilator mode and settings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Patient care skills to care for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations are required. [Required]
• Intubations and airway management for all population served [Preferred]
• Ventilator management for all populations served [Preferred]
• Arterial line placements [Preferred]
