Job summary

AdventHealth in Altamonte Springs, FL is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for a 13-week StaffFlex contract on the night shift. You will deliver routine and advanced respiratory therapies, monitor patients, and adjust treatments to ensure safe, effective care.

Requires NBRC credential and a state-registered/licensed RT, with an Associate degree in respiratory care and BLS at minimum; neonatal to geriatric care experience is valued. Night shift; competitive pay; commitment to compassionate care.

Responsibilities

• Delivers routine and advanced respiratory therapies including aerosol, oxygen, and bronchial hygiene.
• Monitors and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment.
• Adjusts therapies per protocol and clinical criteria.
• Reevaluates ventilator interface regularly and responds to alarms.
• Assists weaning and adjusts ventilator settings as patient progresses.
• Draws and analyzes arterial/capillary blood gases and reviews results.
• Recommends changes in respiratory plan of care when needed.
• Ensures effectiveness of assessment and reassessment of patient progress.
• Initiates and maintains mechanical ventilation as appropriate.

Job Description:

Current/recent Resp Therapy experience required

• Delivers routine respiratory treatments and continuous respiratory therapy including aerosol therapy, lung expansion therapy, oxygen therapy, and bronchial hygiene.

• Monitors, instructs, and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment delivery.

• Prevents and/or resolves untoward side effects and adjusts therapies according to protocol and documented clinical criteria.

• Reevaluates patient/ventilator interface a minimum of every four hours, responds to alarms, and troubleshoots as needed.

• Establishes weaning readiness and facilitates the weaning process, adjusting ventilator settings in accordance with patient progress.

• Draws and analyzes arterial and capillary blood gases, places arterial lines, and makes or recommends changes in respiratory management according to blood gas results.

• Recommends changes in respiratory plan of care according to documented medical necessity and within established protocols.

• Ensures the effectiveness of therapist assessment and reassessment by monitoring patient progress.

• Makes and/or recommends changes based on pulse oximetry, peak flow measurement, chest x-ray, lab work, and other data relevant to optimal patient progress.

• Initiates and maintains mechanical ventilation, determining or guiding the determination of ventilator mode and settings.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Patient care skills to care for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations are required. [Required]
