Job summary

Research Medical Center in Kansas City area seeks a seasonal Respiratory Therapist (PRN) for the upcoming winter season. You will provide diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care across emergency, critical care, and acute settings using advanced technology.

This seasonal position runs 11/8/26 through 2/27/27 with a completion bonus after 16 weeks of employment, requires 72 hours per pay period, and includes weekend shifts.

Qualifications

  • ACLS required within 6 months of employment start date.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • NBRC-RRT credential.
  • RRT/RCP-State license required.
  • No travel required.
  • One year of RT experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess respiratory status via focused exams and breath sounds.
  • Deliver oxygen therapy, aerosols, airway clearance techniques.
  • Manage artificial airways and invasive/noninvasive ventilation.
  • Educate patients and families; partner with care team.
  • Maintain and disinfect equipment; ensure safety and readiness.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Respiratory Therapist, you'll play an essential role in guiding patients through both routine care and critical moments. You'll perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures while managing invasive and noninvasive ventilation across a variety of care settings. Seasonal Position Requirements and Incentives
  • Seasonal position for 11/8/26 -- 2/27/27
  • Completion bonus to be paid to eligible employees after the successful completion of 16 consecutive weeks of employment while meeting all shift requirements during that period.
  • All Seasonal RNs/PCTs/ RRTs are required to work a minimum of 72 hours per pay period (0.9 FTEs) during the seasonal period.
  • Two (2) weekend shifts are required for each 4-week period if applicable.
  • During the 16-week period, the employee is required to work one holiday shift as defined by Department Manager or designee.
  • Seasonal Staff are PRN status employees and are subject to first call-off. There is no guarantee of hours by the hospital. However, if employees are called off by the facility, then they will still be eligible for the completion bonus.
  • Seasonal Staff will not be eligible for benefits, except 401 (k) and retirement contribution per the PRN policy.
  • Staff members classified in the Seasonal Program are eligible for Critical Staffing Need Differential payments, when approved for their department and after they have completed three scheduled shifts in a week (i.e. 4th shift is paid Critical Staffing Differential).
  • Shifts may vary based on needs of the department.
  • After the completion period has been met, employees are eligible to apply to open FT/PT/PRN vacancies.
  • Current PRN employees with 0.001 or .3 FTE commitment can be considered for this program.
  • Based on business needs, the seasonal program can be ended at any time.
  • This program cannot be combined with Seasonal Incentive Program.
Your role will include
  • Assessing respiratory status by performing focused exams, interpreting breath sounds and airway patency, and determining the need for respiratory interventions.
  • Delivering evidence-based therapy by providing oxygen support, aerosolized medications, airway clearance techniques, and other treatments across emergency, critical care, and acute settings.
  • Managing ventilation and airways by assisting with artificial airway placement, initiating and adjusting invasive and noninvasive ventilation, monitoring patient responses, and responding quickly to clinical changes or emergencies.
  • Supporting patients and the care team by educating patients and families, serving as a clinical resource, partnering with physicians and nurses, and helping stabilize newborns during deliveries when needed.
  • Maintaining equipment and safety by setting up, operating, and cleaning respiratory equipment; ensuring readiness and preventive maintenance; transporting ventilated patients safely; and following all infection-prevention standards.
What qualifications you will need
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • (NBRC-RRT) Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree
  • (RRT/RCP-State) Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner
  • No Travel Required
  • One (1) Year Required Experience
