Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide expert respiratory care to diverse patients across inpatient and outpatient settings, from neonates to adults. This role supports the Respiratory Care department with a weekend package (2 out of 3 weekends) and a 0.4 FTE schedule.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program is required.
• Graduate of a CoARC approved Respiratory Care program is required.
• Current licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in State(s) of Practice is required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients’ respiratory conditions by conducting physical examinations and reviewing medical histories.
• Administer respiratory therapies including medical gas delivery, nebulization, chest physiotherapy, airway management, and mechanical ventilation (invasive and non-invasive) for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and neonatal patients.
• Perform diagnostic testing such as arterial blood gas (ABG) collection and analysis, pulmonary function testing, and pulse oximetry.
• Monitor patient responses to treatments and adjust care or escalate concerns as needed.
• Manage artificial airways and troubleshoot respiratory equipment to ensure safety and effectiveness.
• Be an active member of the medical emergency response teams.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient electronic medical record (EMR).
• Communicate and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams regarding patient status and therapy plans.
• Provide assistance with internal patient transports.
• Educate patients and families on respiratory pathophysiology and pharmacologic therapies.
• Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment.
• Perform routine cleaning and disinfection of equipment.
• Serve as a preceptor and mentor for students and new staff.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical outcomes committees.

Qualifications

Education:

• Associate's orBachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapyfrom an accredited program required.
• Graduate of a CoARC approved Respiratory Care programrequired.

License(s)/Certification(s):

• Must have current licensure in good standing to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in State(s) of Practice required.
• RCPIA
• Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
• Mandatory Reporterrequired within 90 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS)certificationrequired within 90 days of hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificationrequired within 90 days of hire.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificationrequired within 90 days of hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certificationpreferred within 180 days of hire.
