Summary
Responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive respiratory care. The Respiratory therapist administers respiratory care procedures and modalities in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. Using evidence-based practices, clinical decision making, and skilled communication, the therapist compassionately leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.
Major Responsibilities
- Supports assessment of patients using pulmonary diagnostics, radiographs, hemodynamic and laboratory values, blood gases, and electrolytes. Identifies and addresses patient-specific needs.
- Operates specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care settings. Assists physicians with bedside procedures.
- Provides medication treatments and therapies as prescribed.
- Cleans, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment, identifying repair needs.
- Educates patients on therapy purpose, techniques, and disease management.
- Collaborates with departments to manage patient care and education.
- Adapts to policies for various service areas and maintains performance standards.
- Communicates effectively, providing clear patient handoffs.
- Promotes safety by applying safety measures, reporting safety events, and participating in corrective actions.
- Precepts and educates new staff and students.
- Provides care appropriate to patient age, assessing data and interpreting information.
Licensure, Registration, and Certification
- State-issued Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
- Active RRT or CRT credential issued by NBRC.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA.
Education and Experience
- Graduate of an accredited respiratory care program with at least an associate degree.
- No experience required.

Physical Requirements & Conditions
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, push/pull, and perform transfers using safe mechanics.
