Location: Advocate Sherman Hospital - 1425 N. Randall Rd, Elgin
Shift: Night Shift (3rd)
FTE: 0.9 (Full-Time)
Summary: Responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive respiratory care. The Respiratory therapist administers respiratory care procedures and modalities in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. Using evidence-based practices, clinical decision making, and skilled communication, the therapist compassionately leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.
Major Responsibilities
- Uses respiratory therapy processes to support assessment of patients utilizing skills such as pulmonary diagnostics, chest radiograph, hemodynamic values, laboratory values, and blood gases. Identifies and addresses patient-specific needs.
- Operates specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care settings. Assists physicians with bedside or other procedures as applicable.
- Provides medication treatments and therapies as prescribed by physicians or protocols.
- Maintains, troubleshoots, and ensures proper functionality of equipment, and identifies when service or repairs are needed.
- Educates and instructs patients on therapy purpose, techniques, self-care, and disease management.
- Collaborates with other departments for clinical problem solving and education on patient management.
- Adapts and complies with policies for various service areas, performs tasks as assigned, and maintains performance standards.
- Communicates effectively, provides timely patient handoffs, and resolves conflicts professionally.
- Promotes safety, reports safety events and near misses, and participates in corrective actions.
- Precepts and teaches new team members, orientees, and students.
- Provides care appropriate to patient age, understanding growth and development, and interpreting data relevant to patient needs.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification
- State-issued Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
- Active RRT credential within 12 months or CRT credential if received before Jan 2023.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the AHA.
- Additional site-specific requirements as per Education/Certification Addendum.
Education
Graduate from an accredited respiratory care program with at least an associate degree.
Experience
No prior experience required.
