The Per Diem Respiratory Therapist is responsible for managing and delivering patient care in their assigned areas. This position requires population-specific competencies and adherence to National Patient Safety Goals based on patient contact levels.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Registry-Eligible Respiratory Therapy School
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (graduates have 6 months to become registered; failure to do so will result in a transfer to Occasional Part Time)
• Current Respiratory Care Practitioner License issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision (OSBMLS)
• May work under a 'temporary Letter to Practice' until licensure is granted
• ACLS certification or obtain within 60 days of hire
• NRP certification or obtain within 180 days of hire
• PALS certification preferred; Conscious Sedation certification required before participating in IV Conscious Sedation procedures
• Effective communication skills in English (Written/Verbal)

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Per Diem Respiratory Therapist RRT include, but are not limited to:

• Administering therapeutic services and diagnostic tests to various patient types
• Setting up equipment and assisting physicians during procedures
• Performing assessments, including patient history, chest x-rays, vital signs, blood gases, and progress notes, and communicating findings to physicians
• Performing arterial punctures or blood gas analyses
• Performing intubation as credentialed and approved
• Providing onboarding education to new staff and assisting students

The Respiratory Therapist RRT reports to the assigned Supervisor.

This position may involve additional physical demands and respiratory fit test requirements. Expect moderate exposure to hazards, including infections, chemicals, electrical equipment, and potential workplace violence. Follow universal safety precautions. Be prepared for interruptions, noise, odors, and chemicals. Multiple floors may be assigned per shift, and on-call status may be required.
