We're hiring a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for the Respiratory Care Services department for a Full-Time, Day shift at the University of Chicago Medicine with the Pediatrics Team on our main campus in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL. Note: Our open positions support Pediatric patient populations. We also offer Student opportunities for individuals currently enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy program.

Job Summary

This role involves administering respiratory care treatments, procedures, and protocols under supervision for pediatric patients. Responsibilities include patient assessment, implementing care protocols, and managing ventilation therapies, both emergent and non-emergent.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Administer supplemental oxygen/medical gas therapy as prescribed or via departmental protocols; document procedures accurately in EPIC.
  2. Administer medication delivery therapies (nebulizers, MDI, etc.) as prescribed; document procedures in EPIC and assess patients during administration.
  3. Perform bronchopulmonary hygiene, airway care, and airway clearance techniques; document procedures in EPIC.
  4. Manage non-invasive ventilation (NIV) procedures (BIPAP, CPAP, High Flow); assess patient tolerance and document appropriately.
  5. Manage mechanical ventilation, including weaning plans; document in EPIC.
  6. Provide ventilator management and monitor patient parameters; document accurately and timely.
  7. Perform Arterial Blood Gas analysis, troubleshoot analyzers, and report results promptly.
  8. Transport patients within the facility using appropriate oxygen and ventilator support.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program (minimum two years)
  • Diploma or Certificate of Completion and Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • Effective communication and documentation skills
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by NBRC
  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in Illinois
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), PALS, or ACLS certification preferred, depending on patient care area
