Job description

Shift Details:
12 hour shifts. 7am-7pm
Rotating Weekend/Holidays 7pm-7am

Job Overview:
The Respiratory Therapist provides care to patients with breathing-related conditions and conducts diagnostic testing. This job requires working both independently and as part of the multi-disciplinary team to treat and respond to the immediate needs of the patient.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides services to patients of all age groups in accordance with physician orders, department policies, and procedures.
  • Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
  • Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
  • Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.

Minimum Education:
Required: Completion of an Accredited Program for Respiratory Care

Required Skills:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications:
X Basic Life Support (BLS)
X Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) (within the first six months of hire)
X VA Licensed Respiratory Therapist
For new graduates from an accredited school, recent NICU clinical site reference preferred - CRT or RRT credential from NBRC and licensed by the state within 12 months of employment.

Minimum Work Experience:
Experience working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit/Intermediate Care Nursery preferred.
