Responsibilities

Job Summary

Respiratory Therapists at Mary Free Bed are key members of a multidisciplinary team that collaborates to provide patient‑centered care. They coordinate, direct, and deliver respiratory care to multiple patients using a patient and family‑centered approach.

Schedule & Compensation

Day Shift (United States of America). Part‑time: 24 hours per week, every other weekend. Hours: 6:00am – 6:30pm. Compensation: Starting at $32.05 per hour, eligible for increase based on experience. Sign‑on bonus available.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of the license, certification or registration and as required by Federal and State laws.
• Deliver all respiratory care to patients at Mary Free Bed, developing or following patient‑centered plans of care in collaboration with physicians and other disciplines.
• Review medical history and evaluate patients for bronchodilator care, ventilator care, pulmonary hygiene therapy, airway management and care (including tracheostomy changes and sleep disorder screening), bipap/cpap therapy, appropriate oxygen and aerosol therapy.
• Perform diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, blood gas, TCOM monitoring and downloads, overnight pulse ox study, and oxygen desaturation study to determine home oxygen needs.
• Participate in performance improvement by identifying ways to improve care, reporting unexpected events or medical errors and “near misses”. Assist with data collection and documentation audits for quality improvement.
• Promote patient safety by following all applicable department policies and procedures, reporting unexpected events and near misses, and communicating risks to the Leadership Team.
• Handle confidential information discreetly and provide customer service recovery with patients and family members.
• Integrate with interdisciplinary team, maintain effective relationships with physicians and other disciplines, and contribute to professional development of colleagues.
• Assist in employee selection and orientation, serving as a preceptor and collaborating with the Leadership Team on comprehensive orientation.
• Maintain professional standards, meet regulatory and accreditation requirements, and demonstrate competency within the defined time frame.

Qualifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of Michigan.
• Associate’s degree required. Newly graduated therapists must complete the registry exam within 90 days.
• Current ACLS and PALS certification; may be obtained within nine months of starting.
• Prior experience as a Respiratory Therapist preferred but not required.
• Strong critical thinking, decision‑making, delegation, leadership, time‑management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively under time constraints and handle interruptions while prioritizing tasks.

Physical Requirements
