General Summary
- Electronic/Paper documentation: Ensures accurate and concise entry of patient care data along the continuum. Guides staff in documenting and entering data correctly in the medical record/EMR, verified by chart review. Completes required training on electronic documentation.
- Team Leadership: Uses interpersonal and clinical skills to foster team collaboration and unity. Develops communication skills to enhance networking with clinical staff. Encourages and empowers staff toward professional growth despite diversity and personal differences. Uses strategies for organizational and unit improvements. Assists staff in improving performance and productivity. Demonstrates time management and conflict resolution skills.
- Collection of Specimens: Follows procedural guidelines accurately to obtain bodily specimens for laboratory testing. Completes annual training and documentation. Uses proper patient identification, collection techniques, and documentation.
- Ventilator Management: Performs related processes, attends/trains in new treatment modalities, and completes annual testing.
- Medication Management: Performs related processes, attends/trains in new treatment modalities, and completes annual testing.
- Airway Management: Performs related processes, attends/trains in new treatment modalities, and completes annual testing.
- Provides care appropriate to patients' age, culture, ethnicity, and diagnostic needs. Assesses and interprets patient data to identify specific needs and provide appropriate care for pediatric, adolescent, or geriatric patients.
- Demonstrates compassion and courtesy to patients and supports their families and visitors.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Registry (RRT) by the National Association for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required.
- Licensure as a Respiratory Care practitioner by the Maryland Board of Physician Quality Assurance is required.
- Current CPR certification is required.
- ACLS certification is preferred.
- An Associate's degree is required; a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy is preferred.
- Four years of experience as an RRT are required.
- Two years of critical care experience are required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology, microbiology, mathematics, and pharmacology. Proficiency in medical terminology and respiratory equipment operation.
- Knowledge of respiratory diseases, treatments, procedures, and interpretation of tests and results.
- Familiarity with life support equipment and applications.
- Basic computer skills, familiar with Windows applications.
- Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work independently.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families.
