UPMC East is hiring full-time Respiratory Therapists to join our team of excellent respiratory professionals!

We are currently seeking individuals to work 12-hour shifts, including 7 am to 7 pm and 7 pm to 7 am. These positions will include rotating weekend and holiday responsibilities.

Purpose:

Under the general direction of a physician and by prescription, provides respiratory therapy services and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities. Responsibilities are performed across all patient populations and service areas.

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates the appropriateness of medical orders and interprets clinical data to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration systems, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators. Ensures equipment functions safely and efficiently, adjusting as necessary.
  • Assists in transporting mechanically ventilated patients and responds to all code situations.
  • Maintains patient charts with relevant identification and therapy information. Orders repairs when needed. Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and healthcare personnel. Supervises students during training.
  • Reads prescriptions, measures arterial blood gases, reviews patient information to assess condition, and determines treatment requirements, including type, duration, and medication dosages.
  • Monitors physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs and blood gases. Performs bronchopulmonary drainage, assists with breathing exercises, and conducts pulmonary function tests. Consults with physicians regarding adverse reactions.
