The Respiratory Therapist RRT is responsible for managing and delivering patient care in their assigned areas, requiring population-specific competencies and adherence to National Patient Safety Goals.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Registry-eligible Respiratory Therapy School
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (must become registered within 12 months of hire; failure to do so will result in a transition to a CRT Therapist position)
• Current Respiratory Care Practitioner License issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision (OSBMLS), or a temporary practice letter until licensure is granted
• At least 1 year of full-time respiratory care experience or recent clinical practicum in an accredited program
• Must be RRT and Conscious Sedation Certified before participating in IV Conscious Sedation procedures
• Effective communication skills in English (written and verbal)
• BLS certification or obtain within 60 days of hire

Responsibilities

The Respiratory Therapist RRT will:

• Administer therapeutic services and diagnostic tests to diverse patient types
• Set up equipment and assist physicians during procedures
• Perform assessments, including patient history, chest x-rays, vital signs, blood gases, and progress notes to determine therapy needs and communicate findings
• Perform arterial punctures or blood gas analysis
• Perform intubation where credentialed and approved
• Provide onboarding education to new staff and assist student rotations

For DME department roles, additional duties include scheduling PAP therapy, maintaining documentation, educating patients on respiratory equipment, downloading therapy results, maintaining inventory, and staying updated on PAP therapy guidelines.

The position reports to the Supervisor and may involve physical demands and respiratory fit testing. It includes exposure to hazards like infections, chemicals, and potential workplace violence. Safety precautions must be followed. The role may require being on call and working across multiple floors.
