Job summary

Jackson County Hospital District is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to support patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders. You will administer therapies, perform pulmonary function testing, monitor EKGs, and ensure equipment is safe and properly maintained.

You will work across age groups from neonate to geriatric, maintain department forms and logs, and assist in training students and staff while upholding confidentiality and safety.

Qualifications

• Current Florida CRT/RRT to practice as Respiratory Therapist (RRT preferred).
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

Job description

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment. Remains alert, assesses possible side effects to oxygen delivery
• Competent in the ability to assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders.
• The ability to administer respiratory therapy treatments, understands the purpose of each and any possible risks associated with the therapy.
• Performs Pulmonary Function testing
• Maintains a thorough knowledge of all department forms, flow charts, logs and proper usage.
• Performs all additional duties as assigned the department director.
• Performs EKGs, properly inputs patient's information on EKGs, makes sure EKGs are properly stored electronically, and monitor EKGs for abnormal patterns.
• Manages, operate and cleans equipment safely and correctly. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently.
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques and treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages, including neonate, pediatric adolescent, geriatric and the general population.

Requirements

Regulatory Requirements

• Completes annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame.
• Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital.
• Current certification by the State of Florida (CRT/RRT) to practice as Respiratory Therapist; RRT preferred.
• PALS and Neonatal Resuscitation certifications preferred.
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
• Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification
• One year of previous experience in all aspects of cardiopulmonary services preferred.

• Knows the proper procedure for calling codes and the proper response for each code according to department protocol (i.e. fire, lock down, infant abduction, bomb threat, etc.)
• Knows the proper procedure for reporting incidents involving the patient, visitor or employee.
