Job description

Position Summary

Provide respiratory care to the sick and injured who present at MHP for care, including ventilatory care, aerosolized medication delivery, mucous mobilization, resuscitation, acquisition of arterial blood gases, education and supervision of respiratory therapy students, bedside assessments, assistance to physicians and other healthcare providers, and diagnostic procedures such as EKG acquisition and pulmonary function determinations.

Hours & Schedule

36 hours per week. 12‑hour day shift: 7:00 am‑7:30 pm, variable weekends and holidays, scheduled in accordance with CBA.

Position Purpose

Providing respiratory care—including ventilator care, aerosolized medication delivery, mucous mobilization, resuscitation, arterial blood gas acquisition, education and supervision of respiratory therapy students—while performing bedside assessments, assisting physicians and other healthcare providers, and carrying out diagnostic procedures such as EKG acquisition and pulmonary function determinations.

Responsibilities

• Familiar with all respiratory therapeutics, their actions, expected results and possible side effects
• Comply with all policies regarding incomplete orders, medication of therapy, adverse reactions, automatic stop orders, infection control, patient restraints and safety regulations
• Perform all respiratory and cardiac diagnostic studies on patients of all ages
• Maintain accurate and complete medical records
• Disinfect and sterilize equipment

Minimum Qualifications

• Licensure by the State of Michigan as a Respiratory Therapist
• Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care
• Obtain RRT within 6 months of employment if currently certified as a CRT
• Working knowledge of all aspects of respiratory care, including diagnostics
• Current certification in Basic Life Support; Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred
