Job summary

Franciscan Children's in Boston is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to collaborate with infants, children, and teens to address breathing challenges and help them reach their full potential in a supportive, family‑centered environment.

Under the direction of pulmonologists and attending physicians, you will manage ventilators and airway devices, deliver respiratory medications, provide noninvasive ventilation, perform CPR‑related support, and train families to care for children safely at home.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
• Completion of a two-year certification and/or four-year respiratory care program is required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
• Massachusetts respiratory care license required; BCLS cert required; PALS/NALS recommended; NBRC credentialing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ventilator management and weaning.
• Trache tube management and decannulation.
• Non-invasive ventilatory support (Bi-Level ventilation).
• Respiratory medication evaluation, management, and delivery.
• Respiratory muscle evaluation and exercise.
• CPR and airway management.
• Family and patient teaching.
• Transport patients to other Hospitals.
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary to the operation of the department.

Job description

At Franciscan Children's, Respiratory Therapists work with infants, children, and teenagers (birth to 22 years of age) to address breathing challenges and help them reach their full potential. Patients and families receive intensive services from respiratory therapists under the direction of Pulmonologists and attending physicians.

Many patients born prematurely and/or with cardio-respiratory defects require full ventilator support while they await corrective surgery, or to allow their lungs to grow and work adequately. Once the causes of the defects are resolved, they may be weaned off the ventilator. In some instances, children will remain on a ventilator at night, in which case, we train families to take the child home while still on the ventilator and provide them with the skills and information they need to ensure a safe and secure environment for the child.

Job Requirements:

Certification, Registration, or Licensure required by the Job:

• Current Massachusetts respiratory care license.
• Current BCLS certification is required; PALS and NALS are recommended.
• Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
