Qualifications

Work Hours/Shift: Relief

You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Incorporates patient, physician, customer needs and concerns into decision-making and organizational action
  • Respond to emergency situations immediately, perform appropriate patient assessment and intervention and replace emergency supplies in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate understanding of Code Blue and Rapid Response procedures
  • Assure code blue intubation and blade boxes are checked daily and after use
  • Assures mandatory hospital and department competencies are done annually in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates ability to access department and Medical Center information
  • Perform respiratory care procedures according to physician orders, department policy/procedure, and patient care plan
  • Perform ABG’s and process according to department procedure, understand results and take appropriate action
  • Report critical values per hospital policy
  • Demonstrates understanding of home equipment set-ups procedure
  • Facilitators will be the “point person” on the shift, determine appropriate staffing and make sure everyone has what they need to ensure assigned work is completed
  • Facilitators report questions or problems to the department director
  • Follows the “Standard of Behavior” guidelines per hospital policy
  • Follows the AIDET model (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation and Thank) at all times
  • Demonstrates ability to operate bedside spirometry equipment
  • Demonstrate ability to initiate, maintain, and discontinue BIPAP
  • Demonstrate ability to prepare for and assist with bronchoscopy
  • Demonstrate proficiency with multiple devices i.e. EzPAP, Flutter Valve, PEP, Theravest/Smart Vest, Acapella and Incentive Spirometry
  • Demonstrate ability to initiate and operate the Draeger Ventilator
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the set-up and operation of the iVent
  • Demonstrate ability to identify appropriate, initiate and document in hospital IPOCS
  • Demonstrates understanding of the population we serve i.e. neonate/infant, geriatric, COPD, Pneumonia, Non-English Speaking
  • Demonstrate ability and proficiency to order, perform, confirm and post ECGs in patient’s chart
  • Demonstrate ability to set-up, implement therapy, wean appropriately and document completely on high flow oxygen systems
  • NICU RTs must be able to demonstrate and verbally answer trouble shooting questions on the Oxygen Analyzers, Oxygen Cannula with bubbler, Heated Cannula, Oxygen Hoods, SIPAP/CPAP, Babylog Ventilator, Surfactant delivery, suctioning, nursery rounding and equipment stocking
  • When working at Prairie Star location, will assist with vital signs when needed
  • In Pulmonary Function Lab demonstrates knowledge of pulmonary function testing procedures/protocols and related equipment
What You Will Need:
  • Associate’s Degree or Graduate of a Technical School required
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 1 + Year of Experience required
  • 2 years clinical experience for new grads acceptable in lieu of 1 year of work experience
  • Kansas Respiratory Therapist License
  • BLS through American Heart Association
  • NRP if working in NICU

Job Summary: The Respiratory Therapist provides direct respiratory care to patients in all areas of the hospital as outlined in Pulmonary Services procedure manual. Is knowledgeable in providing and evaluating the routine as well as critical care modes of respiratory care. Responsible for the effective and optimal administration of modalities based upon assessment and evaluation. Provides recommendations and/or changes to care based on patient’s current status.
