Position Summary

Assesses, treats, and cares for patients with breathing disorders. Initiates and conducts therapeutic procedures; maintains patient records; and operates equipment.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates competency in respiratory therapeutics, including non-invasive ventilators and pulmonary diagnostics.
  • Maintains accurate documentation.
  • Blends patient care management skills with technical expertise.
  • Communicates effectively with healthcare team members.
  • Performs quality control and maintenance of blood gas analyzers and related procedures.
  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance in accordance with policies.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant policies and standards.
Other Functions
  • Provides age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development.
  • Expertise in medical gas administration, environmental systems, humidification, medication delivery, ventilatory support, and CPR.
  • Provides care in various units: non-critical, intermediate, and intensive care.
  • Engages in advanced clinical roles such as preceptor, mentor, educator, and specialist.
  • Instructs clinical practicum students.
  • Adapts care to patient age and condition, interpreting data to meet patient needs.
Qualifications
Education/Training
  • Associate of Science in Respiratory Care or Cardiopulmonary Sciences; or certification from an approved program if licensed before Dec 31, 1987.
  • Intermediate Critical Care training per Orlando Health’s standards.
  • Basic computer and mechanical skills.
Licensure/Certification
  • Active license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in Florida.
  • RRT credential from NBRC, maintained every five years if registered after July 1, 2002.
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Advanced Life Support as appropriate.
  • Preferred: Membership in AARC and FSRC.
