Job Summary

• Responsible for administering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered per physician, monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, patient assessment, understanding ramifications of hemodynamic monitoring, understanding blood work results, monitoring, teaching, and training.

Essential Functions

• Deliver Respiratory Care procedures in all hospital areas as per policies and protocols.
• Maintain accurate documentation and develop patient care plans.
• Verify and initiate physician orders for Respiratory Care.
• Demonstrate competency with all Respiratory Care instruments and troubleshoot issues.
• Manage oxygen/aerosol delivery and mechanical ventilation devices.
• Perform airway management, including intubation and suction techniques, and initiate CPR.
• Perform tracheostomy and endotracheal tube care.
• Implement speaking valve trials and assist with bronchoscopy procedures.
• Assess decannulation risks and perform weaning assessments.
• Participate in patient mobility programs and perform monitoring procedures.
• Perform ABG sampling, analysis, and quality control.
• Educate patients and families, and provide effective handoffs.
• Participate in meetings and rounds, and communicate patient status updates.
• Assist in training new staff and students.

• Work effectively under stress and in emergencies.
• Communicate well with healthcare teams, patients, and families.
• Provide age-appropriate care for adults and geriatrics.
• Work cooperatively as part of a team.
• Maintain good attendance and fluent English skills.
• Travel is not required.

Qualifications

Education

• Respiratory Therapy education qualifying for NBRC credentialing.

Licenses/Certifications

• Current Respiratory Therapy license.
• CRT/RRT credential or Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner Certification.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.

Experience

• Preferred 1 year of experience.
