$5,000 SIGN ON BONUS FOR PART-TIME RESPIRATORY THERAPISTS HIRED

Gurwin Healthcare System is a full continuum of care providing extraordinary care and caring to the people that we serve. Set on a 36-acre campus in Commack, NY, the Gurwin Healthcare System includes the 460-bed Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, providing short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care, memory care, respiratory and ventilator care, palliative and hospice care, social and medical adult day programs, and on-site dialysis and infusion therapy. Sharing the campus is Gurwin’s Assisted Living community (Gurwin Jewish ~ Fay J. Lindner Residences), our independent living community (Fountaingate Gardens) and Gurwin Certified and Licensed Home Care Services Agencies.

Our innovative facility and growing services offer opportunities to advance your career. We are currently seeking a Respiratory Therapist who will embody the passion and commitment required to deliver the ultimate care for our residents.

Full-time 12-hour shift days or nights - you will be scheduled alternating weekends and 1 day every other week.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from a JRCRTE - AMA accredited program in Respiratory Care.
  • Licensed by the NYS Department of Education as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Technician (CRT).
  • Basic Life Support.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of respiratory therapy experience preferred.
  • Member of the American Association for Respiratory Care preferred.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Make decisions within the scope of respiratory care and make appropriate recommendations to the responsible physician.
  • Responsible for the respiratory care rendered to all residents, following policy and clinical procedures as ordered by the physician.
  • Knowledge of dementia population and dealing with related behaviors.
  • Able to recognize when a resident is in pain and take appropriate actions.
  • Provide support to patients with increased chronic or acute respiratory difficulty by administering respiratory modalities as per physician orders.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in addressing the specialized needs of geriatric and sub-acute/rehab populations.
  • Assess the patient’s physical problems such as signs and symptoms of respiratory distress, failure, etc.
  • Determine need for respiratory equipment and manage inventory and repairs.
  • Assess the patient’s compliance with the therapeutic regimen and discuss with the medical and nursing staff.
  • Instruct patients, families, and staff in pulmonary hygiene and the use of respiratory equipment.
  • Communicate information regularly to the nurse responsible for coordinating patient care.
  • Provide timely documentation including assessments, plans, goals, care, summary reports, and related data.
