Job summary

Portsmouth Regional Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join our PRN pool and support patients across emergency, ICU, and acute care settings. You will deliver evidence-based therapies, manage ventilator support, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient care.

Ideal candidates demonstrate current RT licensure or NBRC-RRT, plus ACLS/BLS/PALS certifications, with readiness to complete required trainings within onboarding timelines.

Qualifications

  • ACLS, BLS and PALS certifications must be current or obtained within specified timeframes.
  • NBRC-RRT or state-licensure as a Respiratory Therapist is required.
  • Proactive completion of required competencies within onboarding timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and treat patients, including invasive and noninvasive ventilation across care settings.
  • Provide oxygen, aerosolized meds, airway clearance, and evidence-based therapies.
  • Assist with artificial airways, monitor responses, and respond to emergencies.
  • Educate patients and families; collaborate with physicians and nurses; support newborn stabilization when needed.
  • Maintain and sanitize equipment, ensure readiness and infection prevention standards.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Respiratory Therapist,you’llplay an essential role in guiding patients through both routine care and critical moments.You’llperform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures while managing invasive and noninvasive ventilation across a variety of care settings.You’llhave access to advanced respiratory technology, mentorship from experienced RT leaders, and the support of a dependable, collaborative team that will set you up for success and ongoing professional growth. Your role will include:

  • Assessing respiratory statusby performing focused exams, interpreting breath sounds and airway patency, anddeterminingthe need for respiratory interventions.
  • Deliveringevidence-based therapyby providing oxygen support, aerosolized medications, airway clearance techniques, and other treatments across emergency, critical care, and acute settings.
  • Managing ventilation and airwaysbyassistingwith artificial airway placement,initiatingand adjusting invasive and noninvasive ventilation,monitoringpatientresponses, and responding quickly to clinical changes or emergencies.
  • Supporting patients and the care teamby educating patients and families, serving as a clinical resource, partnering with physicians and nurses, and helping stabilize newborns during deliveries when needed.
  • Maintainingequipment and safetyby setting up,operating, and cleaning respiratory equipment; ensuring readiness and preventive maintenance; transporting ventilated patients safely; and following all infection-prevention standards.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 7 days of employment start date
  • Neonate Resuscitate must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • (NBRC-RRT) Registered Respiratory Therapist, or (RRT/RCP-State) Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner must be obtained within 7 days of employment start date
