Job summary

MercyOne Clinton seeks a Respiratory Therapist to join our caring team on a part-time rotating shift. You will consult with physicians and nurses, assess patient needs, and implement respiratory care plans with accuracy and empathy.

You will educate patients, families, and colleagues on therapies and device usage, perform diagnostic tests, and contribute to emergency and acute care when needed, following evidence-based guidelines.

Qualifications

• Must be NBRC registered.
• Must be licensed as an RCP in Iowa within one year of hire.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required within timelines.
• Experience in critical care settings is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Consults with and assists physicians and nurses with respiratory care plans for patients and facilitates implementation of orders.
• Assess patients and evaluate appropriateness and quality of respiratory care; identify needs and communicate with physicians.
• Provide education to patients, students, co-workers, and other healthcare team members about therapies and device usage.
• Perform diagnostic procedures including oximetry, capnography, arterial puncture, and pulmonary function testing; support ventilation workflow.
• Perform emergency and acute respiratory care procedures per guidelines and hospital policies.

Description

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Respiratory Therapist.

• Consults with and assists physicians and nurses with respiratory care plan for patients and facilitates the implementation of physician orders.


• Assess patients and evaluates appropriateness and quality of respiratory care to identify each patient's needs and provide the appropriate care and communicates those needs with the patient's physician.


• Provides effective education to patients, students, co-workers, and other members of the healthcare team as appropriate. Including but not limited to; smoking cessation education, care and cleaning of device education, medication side effects and dosages education and respiratory therapies such as Incentive Spirometry, MDI/DPI usage, HHN usage, CPT/Vest therapy education.


• Performs both fundamental and advanced diagnostic procedures including oximetry measurement, capnography, arterial puncture, mechanical ventilation waveform analysis, and pulmonary function testing.


• Performs emergency and acute respiratory care procedures in accordance with evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, and departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

General Requirements

• Must be registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care upon hire.


• Must be licensed as an RCP in the State of Iowa within one year of hire.


• Experience in another health care setting is desirable, with critical care experience preferred.


• Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.


• Must be ACLS certified within one year of hire.

Education

• Must be a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
