Job summary

Qualifications

• Certified as a Respiratory Therapist by NBRC or as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (US).
• Current Florida licensure as CRT or RRT in good standing.
• Current BLS certification with AHA.
• Current PALS certification or obtained within one year of employment.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and specialty pulmonary function testing, stress testing, and metabolic assessment testing.
• Performs complete patient assessment or reassessment and educates patient/guardian to improve care outcomes.
• Performs arterial and capillary punctures for blood gas analysis.
• Maintains and orders supplies for the pulmonary function lab and ensures preventative maintenance of equipment.
• Assists with patient flow of the clinic and rooms patients for exams.
• Obtains vital signs and documents information in the EMR.
• Captures and enters patient data into the EMR and collects laboratory specimens.
• Ensures documentation such as X-rays and lab reports are available for provider review.
• Ensures provider orders are carried out, including scheduling tests and pre-authorizations; assists with bronchoscopy if needed.
• Ensures medications are stored safely and that expiration dates are checked monthly.
• Records accurate ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes.
• Documents CF NBS grant activities to meet grant deliverables.

Schedule

Tuesday 8 am to 5 pm

Primary Responsibilities

1. Performs routine and specialty pulmonary function testing, stress testing, and metabolic assessment testing.
2. Performs complete and accurate patient assessment or reassessment.
   1. Provides education to the patient and/or patient/guardian in a manner that the recipient understands in order to contribute to positive patient care outcome and patient satisfaction.
   2. Performs arterial and capillary punctures for blood gas analysis.
3. Performs quality controls and ensures preventative maintenance is completed on diagnostic equipment.
4. Maintains and orders supplies necessary for pulmonary function lab.
5. Assists with patient flow of clinic.
6. Obtains vital signs.
7. Captures and enters patient information into EMR.
8. Collects and prepares laboratory specimens.
9. Ensures appropriate documentation such as x-rays and laboratory reports are available for provider's review.
10. Rooms patients into exam room with preparation for exam and assists provider with exam.
11. Handles all telephone calls in a courteous and timely manner with documentation of call in EMR.
12. Ensures provider's orders are carried out:
    1. Under the direction of the provider schedules PT/OT, surgery, and diagnostic test to include pre-authorization and notification of patient.
    2. Assists provider with bronchoscopy if needed.
13. Ensures medications are safely stored in an appropriate area as designated by law, and that medication expiration dates are evaluated on a monthly schedule.
    1. Familiar with pharmacokinetics, contraindications, side effects, mode of administration of all medications provider prescribes.
14. Ensures accurate ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes are recorded.
15. Documentation of CF NBS grant to ensure all documentation is done necessary for grant deliverables are done in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

• Certified as a Respiratory Therapist by National Board of Respiratory Care or Registered Respiratory Therapist by National Board of Respiratory Care
• Current licensure in Florida as a Certified Respiratory Therapist or Current licensure in Florida as Registered Respiratory Therapist
• Current BLS certification with the American Heart Association
• Current PALS certification or obtained within one year of employment
• At least 1 year of experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Registered as a Respiratory Therapist by National Board of Respiratory Care or Registered Respiratory Therapist by National Board of Respiratory care achieved prior to July 2002
