Family Health West in Fruita, CO, is seeking a Respiratory Therapist or Polysomnography Tech for a full-time, on-site role. Join a caring team at FHW Hospital, located at 300 W. Ottley Avenue, Fruita, CO 81521.

You’ll perform sleep studies, score data, educate patients, and collaborate with physicians in a welcoming western Colorado setting. This full-time opportunity requires an Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s preferred), BLS, and appropriate sleep-tech credentials.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Polysomnographic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, or related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • RPSGT or RRT-SDS preferred; RSPGT, CSPGT, or RRT-SDS required within one year of hire.
  • Current BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides sleep studies by applying electrodes, belts, and sensors and manages oxygen therapy per policy.
  • Scores study data and identifies sleep disorders per AASM guidelines.
  • Prepares patient notes, documents tests, and educates patients on therapy use.
  • Reviews physician orders and patient charts for lab work and nursing notes.
  • Completes billing within 24 hours of service.

Education & Experience
  1. Associate’s degree in Polysomnographic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, or a related field required (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  2. A Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or RRT-SDS is preferred. RSPGT, CSPGT, or RRT-SDS required within one (1) year of hire.

Essential Functions
  • Provides Sleep Study on assigned patients in a timely manner by applying electrodes, belts, and sensors, performing bio-calibration, monitoring polysomnogram, splitting study when criteria is met, providing therapy oxygen, CPAP, or BiPAP per policy as indicated, concluding study with review of data with patient, cleaning & storage of equipment, and preparing room for next study.
  • Provides staging and scoring of data by reviewing study staging each epoch between lights off and lights on and identifying sleep disorders RERA, hypopnea, apnea according to AASM scoring guidelines.
  • Prepares Patient Notes by documenting tests, responding to therapy, any side effects, and patient/family teaching.
  • Reviews physician order, review of patient chart including appropriate lab work, diagnostics, consultations, and nursing assessment/notes.
  • Completes billing in a timely manner, usually within 24 hrs of service.
  • Educates each patient on the use of oxygen, cpap, bipap, common side effects, and the reason for taking them. Explains the terminology and data when patients inquire.
  • Communicates with DME staff the evaluation of patients, what may be appropriate care, and any concerns or instruction for patient safety.
  • Facilities must maintain appropriately trained, supervised, and, where required by state law, licensed sleep technologists. Technologist staffing at facilities must be adequate to address the workload of the facility and assure the safety of patients. The AASM recommends a patient to technologist ratio of 2:1 under usual circumstances for attended PSG at facilities.
  • Facilities must maintain appropriately trained, supervised, and, where required by law, licensed personnel. It is the responsibility of the facility director to ensure that training is provided and documented for technical personnel.
  • Technical staff must be trained on the proper use of HSAT devices including: Device operations, application of sensors, use, maintenance, warnings and safety;
  • Instruction of patients in the use of HSAT devices;
  • Troubleshooting of HSAT problems; and
  • Infection control.
