Job summary

Mohawk Valley Health System in New York seeks a Respiratory Therapist for occasional, variable shift coverage. You will deliver physician-ordered respiratory care and monitor patient responses during therapy.

Responsibilities include ABG interpretation, patient education, equipment setup, and documentation, with emphasis on accuracy and safety in a hospital setting. NYS licensure and NBRC certification, plus BLS/CPR, are required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA-approved school of respiratory care and/or certified or registered by the NBRC.
• 3–5 years of experience in hospital settings preferred.
• Current NYS respiratory therapist or technician license and BLS/CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Complete physician-prescribed respiratory care modalities.
• Verify orders and clarify discrepancies; adjust therapy as needed.
• Gather information for evaluation, recommendations and treatments.
• Document patient assessments, treatments and education clearly.
• Instruct patients and provide handouts when appropriate.
• Ensure respiratory equipment is set up and functioning; report issues.
• Interpret ABG values and discuss with physicians for improvement.
• Perform other duties as required.

Respiratory Therapist - Occasional - Variable Shift

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Respiratory Care Services Medical Director and Clinical Coordinator, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing respiratory care services in accordance with specific physician’s orders, department policies and procedures.

Core Job Responsibilities

• Complete physician prescribed respiratory care modalities while demonstrating a conscientious approach in their administration to the patient
• Verify correct and appropriate orders and take action to clarify any discrepancies. Consistently respond to the outcome of therapy and pursue any necessary changes to provide the most accurate drug dosage delivery device
• Gather appropriate information for a basis for evaluation, recommendations and treatments
• Document all relative information of patient assessments/treatments/education, on the appropriate form in a legible and complete manner.
• Thoroughly instruct patients and use patient handouts when appropriate
• Assure respiratory equipment is set up correctly and operating properly. Alert lead tech or supervisor of any discrepancies or questions. Follows up on lost or broken equipment with appropriate explanation.
• Demonstrate the ability to interpret ABG values and communicate values to physicians making suggestions for improvement.
• Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED:

• Graduate of an AMA-approved school of respiratory care and/or certified or registered by the NBRC

PREFERRED:

• 3-5 years experience in hospital setting
