Job Responsibilities
- Administers respiratory therapy care to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardio-pulmonary system, as prescribed under supervision of Physician.
- Performs routine therapy including oxygen administration, aerosol therapy, incentive spirometry, sputum induction, mixed gases, invasive and non-invasive ventilation, and airway management.
- Reads prescriptions, measures arterial blood gases, reviews patient information to assess condition, and determines treatment requirements.
- Provides education to patients and families regarding therapy.
- Selects appropriate methods for administering inhalants and adjusts as needed according to physician’s orders.
- Monitors patient responses to therapy, including vital signs and blood gases, and reports adverse reactions to the physician.
- Documents assessments and care in EPIC.
- Assists in emergency situations.
Qualifications
- One year certificate from an accredited college or technical school.
- Valid Kentucky Respiratory Care Practitioner license and/or licenses for other states as necessary.
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) certification from NBRC.
- American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Preferred: Associate’s Degree or higher in Respiratory Care.
- One year experience in an acute care setting (preferred).
- American Heart Association ACLS certification (preferred).
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Work near moving mechanical parts and exposure to blood, body fluids, and chemicals.
- Occasional exposure to radiation.
- Moderate noise level.
- Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds frequently, occasional lifting up to 100 pounds, and constant communication with patients and team members.
- Visual and motor skills required for operating equipment and handling instruments.
