Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex situations, primarily in critical care areas, with protocol ventilator management, independent decision-making, and self-direction. Responsibilities also include patient and family education, activity coordination, staff development, and professional growth. The RT II provides care with awareness of population-specific needs, addressing biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs, and participates in educating new employees and others.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

• Provides customer service, completes patient care documentation, and promotes a team environment.
• Performs patient assessments, collaborates with healthcare team members, verifies orders, administers medications, manages ventilators, performs ABG sampling, and educates patients and staff.
• Assists in invasive/non-invasive procedures, cardiac and pulmonary diagnostics.
• Ensures a safe, high-quality environment, promotes accurate documentation, patient safety, performance improvement, and evidence-based practices.

Minimum Education

Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program with at least 20 quarter hours of science. An Associate's degree is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist
• Respiratory Care Professional
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - Instructor
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Instructor or Provisional

Experience

0-2 years of clinical experience with at least 6 months in critical care.
