Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multiple problem-patient care situations, primarily in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, independent decision-making, and self-direction. Responsibilities also include patient and family education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional growth. The RT II provides care with awareness of population-specific needs, addressing biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs, and participates in educating new employees and others.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Provides customer service, completes patient care documentation, and promotes a team environment.
  • Administers quality patient care, including assessments, therapy planning, medication administration, ventilator management, arterial blood gas analysis, and airway management.
  • Educates patients and mentors staff and students.
  • Assists in invasive and non-invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostics (location-specific).
  • Ensures a safe and quality environment by promoting accurate documentation, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all organizational policies.
Minimum Education
  • Associates degree in Respiratory Care or Bachelors in Respiratory Therapy (preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Respiratory Care Professional
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or BLS Instructor
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or ACLS Instructor/Provisional
Experience

0-2 years of clinical experience with at least 6 months in critical care required.

Skills

Strong communication, critical thinking, relationship-building with healthcare professionals, and computer skills, including familiarity with databases. Good assessment and customer service skills are essential.
