Job Summary

Seeking a PRN Registered Respiratory Therapist at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC!

Work Schedule: 7:00pm -7:00am, rotating weekends and holidays, PRN as needed

Location: New Hanover Regional Medical Center, 2131 South 17Th Street, Wilmington, North Carolina 28401

Department: Respiratory Care

Registered Respiratory Therapist

  • Works under the supervision of the Manager.
  • As directed by a physician, administers a variety of simple and complex treatments and tests.
  • Collaborates with medical director and multidisciplinary teams to develop and execute individualized treatment plans for program participants.
  • Responsible for the competent delivery of all routine and emergent respiratory care services as described in the Respiratory Care policy and procedure manual.
  • Explains purpose and procedure of treatments, tests and equipment to patients.
  • Records all pertinent information of treatments, including patient response in the patient’s chart.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a patient advocate for the patient and their support system by incorporating education in the interdisciplinary care plan.
  • Prioritize job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels and ensures timely completion of care interventions, medical orders, etc.
  • Administers and evaluates medication therapies, performs patient transfers and transports patients.
  • Ability to evaluate patient needs and provide appropriate routine respiratory care such as ABGs, bronchial hygiene therapy, etc., as well as perform higher levels of care in critical care areas and emergent situations.
  • Demonstrates independence in the specialty of Respiratory Care. Practices according to state requirements and standards.
  • Critical Care Specific: Ventilator management, code blue, airway management, interpretation and intervention with blood gas analysis, use of all related protocols for patient care.
