Overview

The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multi-problem situations, primarily in critical care areas, with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision-making, and self-direction. Responsibilities include patient and family education, activity coordination, staff development, and professional growth. The RT II provides care with awareness of population-specific needs, addressing biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs, and participates in educating new staff and students.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program with science coursework; Associate's degree required, Bachelor's preferred.

Experience: 0-2 years clinical experience, with at least 6 months in critical care.

Skills: Effective communication, critical thinking, teamwork, computer literacy.

Licenses/Certifications: Registered Respiratory Therapist, Respiratory Care Professional, BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, with instructor and provisional certifications as specified.
