Registered Respiratory Therapist responsible for performing various therapeutic procedures including advanced practice procedures such as operating balloon pumps, working in NICU, performing Pulmonary Function testing (“PFT”), etc. Participates in orientation of staff and student training programs for SJMHS, a teaching institution representing the Respiratory Care department.
Essential duties and Responsibilities
Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and guiding behaviors of SJMHS. Provides professional leadership in patient care. Uses "AIDET" principles (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) when interfacing/treating patients. Uses "Managing Up" communication to position information positively. Provides a consistent experience to patients, families, visitors, and internal customers by using "Key Words at Key Times." Serves as a consultant, resource, and role model in respiratory care. Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines. Facilitates good rapport and cooperative relationships, approaching conflicts constructively. Helps identify problems, offers solutions, and participates in resolution. Maintains safe respiratory therapy practices and alerts management of safety issues. Performs duties per AARC guidelines, including cardiopulmonary arrest situations and emergency procedures. Participates in patient rounds, ensures treatments follow physician orders, and maintains equipment in safe condition. Suggests therapy changes based on clinical assessment. Demonstrates knowledge of oxygen and medical air shutdown procedures. Reviews hospital and departmental policies regularly. Prioritizes conflicting requests for respiratory services. Provides high-quality patient care considering age, developmental, and cultural needs. Participates in educational programs and equipment/procedure updates. Facilitates staff and student instruction during clinical training. Other duties as assigned.
Completes annual Health Stream training per SJMHS standards. Responsible for own professional growth and maintains a log of activities.
Education:
Graduate of a two-year advanced practitioner accredited Respiratory Therapist program; registry eligible. Maintain current RRT or CRT credential. Hold a valid Ohio State License in Respiratory Care.
