Registered Respiratory Therapist responsible for performing various therapeutic procedures including advanced practice procedures such as operating balloon pumps, working in NICU, performing Pulmonary Function testing (“PFT”), etc. Participates in orientation of staff and student training programs for SJMHS, a teaching institution representing the Respiratory Care department.
Essential duties and Responsibilities
Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and guiding behaviors of SJMHS. Provides professional leadership in patient care. Uses "AIDET" principles (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) when interfacing with patients. Uses "Managing Up" communication to position information positively. Provides consistent patient, family, visitor, and internal customer experiences by using "Key Words at Key Times." Serves as a consultant, resource person, and role model in respiratory care. Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA. Facilitates good rapport and cooperative relationships, approaching conflict constructively. Identifies problems, offers solutions, and participates in resolution. Maintains safe respiratory therapy practices; alerts management of safety issues. Performs duties per AARC guidelines and maintains competencies, including emergency responses and patient rounds. Ensures treatments follow physician orders and protocols. Checks equipment safety and contacts repair as needed. Suggests therapy changes based on clinical assessment. Demonstrates knowledge of oxygen and medical air shutdown procedures. Reviews hospital and departmental policies. Prioritizes conflicting requests for respiratory services. Provides high-quality patient care considering age, developmental, and cultural needs. Participates in educational programs and training, including equipment and procedure updates. Facilitates staff and student instruction during clinical training, providing feedback. Other duties as assigned.
Completes annual Health Stream training as per SJMHS standards. Maintains professional growth activities and logs.
Education:
Graduate of a two-year advanced practitioner - Accredited Respiratory Therapist program; Registry eligible. Maintain current RRT or CRT credential. Hold a valid State of Ohio License in Respiratory Care.
