Job summary

AdventHealth Daytona Beach is seeking an experienced Respiratory Therapist for a StaffFlex contract, 13 weeks, days shift, 7a-7p. The role requires recent critical care experience and provides respiratory care including ventilator management and aerosol therapy.

The employee will monitor patients, adjust therapies per protocols, and ensure safe weaning and patient progress. BLS and RRT/CRT licensing is required, with additional state approvals as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved respiratory care program with an associate degree.
• 1+ year of critical care experience preferred.
• Licensure: BLS, RRT/CRT or state equivalents required.

Responsibilities

• Delivers routine respiratory treatments and aerosol therapy.
• Monitors and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment.
• Adjusts therapies according to protocol and clinical criteria.
• Weans and adjusts ventilator settings based on patient progress.
• Draws and analyzes ABG and manages arterial lines when indicated.
• Initiates and maintains mechanical ventilation and determines ventilator mode.

Job Description

• StaffFlex contract, 13 weeks $61.88/hr Full-Time, Days, 7a-7p Open availability Recent Respiratory Therapist experience required.
• Delivers routine respiratory treatments and continuous respiratory therapy including aerosol therapy, lung expansion therapy, oxygen therapy, and bronchial hygiene.
• Monitors, instructs, and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment delivery.
• Prevents and/or resolves untoward side effects and adjusts therapies according to protocol and documented clinical criteria.
• Reevaluates patient/ventilator interface a minimum of every four hours, responds to alarms, and troubleshoots as needed.
• Establishes weaning readiness and facilitates the weaning process, adjusting ventilator settings in accordance with patient progress.
• Draws and analyzes arterial and capillary blood gases, places arterial lines, and makes or recommends changes in respiratory management according to blood gas results.
• Recommends changes in respiratory plan of care according to documented medical necessity and within established protocols.
• Ensures the effectiveness of therapist assessment and reassessment by monitoring patient progress.
• Makes and/or recommends changes based on pulse oximetry, peak flow measurement, chest x-ray, lab work, and other data relevant to optimal patient progress.
• Initiates and maintains mechanical ventilation, determining or guiding the determination of ventilator mode and settings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Patient care skills to care for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations are required.
