Children's of Alabama is seeking a certified respiratory therapist to deliver comprehensive respiratory care across various hospital departments, including critical care units. The ideal candidate will adapt well to diverse clinical settings and fulfill responsibilities in supervision and mentorship. The role requires appropriate licensure and certification pathways in accordance with Alabama standards, making it a valuable opportunity for both seasoned professionals and recent graduates with certification.
A certified respiratory therapist (CRT) who is eligible to be registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) may be required to deliver respiratory care services in all areas of the hospital, including intensive care units, medical and surgical floors, emergency departments, post-anesthesia care units, infant nurseries, and chronic care units. CRTs not eligible for NBRC registration may work in all hospital areas except critical care.
The therapist must adapt to assigned areas and perform special duties as required. CRTs may supervise other respiratory care practitioners, participate in orientation and inservice education, and serve as mentors for students during clinical rotations at Children’s of Alabama.
The CRT works under the technical supervision of the Respiratory Care Clinical Coordinators and the administrative supervision of the Respiratory Care Manager and Department Head. All duties are performed according to policies, procedures, and guidelines set by the Medical Director, maintaining performance standards for the assigned area.
CRT not eligible for NBRC registration must graduate from an AMA-approved 10-month to 1-year respiratory therapy program and be licensed by the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy (ASBRT). Registry-eligible CRTs must graduate from an AMA-approved 2- or 4-year program, be licensed by ASBRT, and pass the registry exam within the designated timeframe.
A minimum of 1 year of experience in respiratory therapy is required. Recent graduates who pass the certification exam are eligible and will be considered.
The practitioner must be licensed by the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Care and certified by the NBRC or eligible to sit for the exam within the specified period.
