Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent certificate.
• New York State Respiratory Therapist (RT) license with current registration.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and evaluates existing data in the patient record including patient history, physical exam and current respiratory care orders.
• Reviews and evaluates data such as blood gas, lab results, and radiology reports for each patient.
• Advises providers on appropriate respiratory care procedures for a given patient.
• Selects and checks respiratory care equipment for proper function and cleanliness.
• Recommends and documents prescribed therapies including oxygen, aerosols, ventilator support, and airway care.
• Monitors clinical parameters and updates respiratory care plans per policy.
• Collaborates with the health care team to implement the plan of care.
• Maintains ACLS certification and performs emergency resuscitation when needed.
• Instructs staff, students, and others in respiratory care methods.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
