Job Description

Responsibilities
- Performs complex respiratory procedures and monitoring for patients requiring specialized care.
- Utilizes advanced clinical assessment and triaging practices.
- Provides all modes of respiratory care, certified to perform procedures across multiple service divisions.
- Performs all functions of a Respiratory Therapist (RRT); see job class #9417.
- Implements clinical procedures within specialty areas such as ICU, Neonatal ICU, Emergency Room, etc., involving complex physiologic data interpretation.
- Administers respiratory therapy within specialty areas and is proficient in multiple clinical settings.
- Collaborates with healthcare professionals and participates in patient rounds.
- Assists in staff orientation, training, and ensuring high-quality patient care standards.
- In the absence of the Clinical Specialist, assumes responsibilities to maintain operations.
Additional Duties
- Provides direct patient care for at least 80% of working hours.
- Participates in education programs and mentors students and new staff.
- Supports clinical research and equipment evaluation projects.
Leadership and Supervision
- Supervises RRTs within specialty areas.
- Acts as a role model and teaches clinical skills.
- Assists in staff orientation and program development.
Communication and Organizational Expectations
- Reports operational issues and participates in interdisciplinary rounds and committees.
- Maintains open communication and adheres to hospital policies and ethical standards.
- Completes clinical documentation and billing accurately.
Qualifications
Required:
- CRT and RRT certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
- Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Illinois.
- CPR and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- NPS certification for Neonatal ICU.
- Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy.
- Minimum of 2 years of Critical Care experience.
Preferred:
- CPFT and RPFT certifications.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
