Job description

Minimum hourly rate starts at $38.01 per hour, with potential for increases. This position also offers a $15,000 sign‑on bonus.

Acts as an active member of the patient care team to provide clinical patient care assessment, initiation, modification, and discontinuance of therapeutic respiratory care procedures to critically ill patients. Analyzes and evaluates clinical patient data to determine the appropriate therapy or interventions and makes recommendations on patient care plans to the medical staff.

Essential Functions
  • Initiates and/or assists with appropriate respiratory tests and procedures, as ordered, to deliver appropriate care to patients.
  • Responds to respiratory emergencies and transports mechanically ventilated patients when moved from units for tests and procedures.
  • Prepares appropriate care plan, and makes specific recommendations to physicians for indicated therapy. Schedules patient treatments as necessary and provides consultation as an active member of the patient care team.
  • Manages the administration of all aspects of respiratory therapy according to respiratory care policies and procedures.
  • Makes regular bedside rounds and administers Respiratory Care modalities to assigned patients. Modifies treatment care plan according to clinical picture and response to therapy.
  • Participates in education of students, physicians, staff, and patients/families. Clinically supervises respiratory therapy students in the patient areas.
Education
  • Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy (required).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred).
Licenses and Credentials
  • Basic Life Support (BLS Certification) – preferred.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) – preferred.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) – preferred.
  • Respiratory Therapist (Massachusetts) – Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care – preferred.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner – State License – generic – HR Only – preferred.
Experience
  • 0-1 year in respiratory care (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Subject‑matter expertise in respiratory therapy and effective communication with patients, team members, and other healthcare disciplines.
  • Ability to assess quickly and offer professional judgment to prepare appropriate care plans, and make specific recommendations to physicians for indicated therapy.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to walk distances and push medical equipment weighing less than 100 pounds.
  • Ability to stand immobile for long periods of time if required.
