Hartford HealthCare Windham Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to assess, plan, and administer respiratory care for patients of all ages. You will operate with significant clinical judgment, reassessing needs as care plans evolve in collaboration with medical staff.

Responsibilities include educating patients and families, following department policies, and providing high-quality care in a demanding hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an Advanced Level Respiratory Therapist Educational Program or two-year Respiratory college.
  • New graduates with 1,000 clinical hours in a hospital setting.
  • CRT certification by NBRC required; CT licensure as Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • BLS certification; ACLS within 6 months of hire; PALS/NRP preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan and administer respiratory care for all ages per department policy.
  • Deliver services with clinical judgment and ongoing reassessment.
  • Educate patients and families about care plans and procedures.
  • Collaborate with departments and physicians to ensure quality care.

Job Summary

The following statements are intended to describe the major elements and requirements of the position and should not be taken as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of individuals assigned to this position.

The RCP shall be responsible for the assessment, planning and administration of all respiratory care offered by the Respiratory Care Department. They shall provide these services to all ages (to include neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) in accordance with the Policy and Procedures. They shall function clinically with a considerable amount of independent judgment regarding the delivery of quality patient care, reassessment of patient care needs, education of patient and family, as established by department policy and procedures and with medical guidance.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

Education:

Graduate of an Advanced Level Respiratory Therapist Educational Program or two (2) year Respiratory college.

Experience

Newly graduated with no previous experience but with 1,000 clinical hours in a hospital setting.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

CRT certification by N.B.R.C. Required for this position to meet State Statute for Respiratory Care Practitioners

Current CT state licensure as Respiratory Care Practitioner

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

ACLS, within 6 months of hire

Current PALS or STABLE Certification and NRP certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements

Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).

Demonstrated knowledge to perform pulmonary function testing. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians and managers. Ability to read and understand oral and written material and effectively communicate technical or complex information. Demonstrates critical thinking and advanced decision making skills. Must be organized, flexible and a team player. Good time management skills. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Ability to handle multiple priorities.
