Job summary

Responsibilities include assessments, patient education, ventilatory support, and procedures per physician orders within an inpatient rehab setting. Minimum requirements include BLS, active state licensure, and ACLS within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans.
• Explain purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients and provide education upon discharge to home.
• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance and monitor results.
• Review chest x-rays and determine need for further evaluation.
• Perform 12-lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Conduct pulmonary function studies per policy.
• Assist with procedures such as bronchoscopy and tracheostomy where applicable.
• Drainage of chest via catheter where applicable.
• Provide tracheostomy care and manage airway devices.
• Record treatment data and patient responses in charts.
• Communicate with attending physicians regarding therapy efficiency.

SSM Health Rehabilitation Hospital, a joint venture between SSM Health and Select Medical, is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for our inpatient rehabilitation facility in Bridgeton, MO. This full‑time day position (11 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.) provides competitive pay ranging from $27.12 to $36.50 per hour based on experience and a $15,000 sign‑on bonus (no repayment commitment).

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans.
• Explain purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients and provide education upon discharge to home.
• Conduct physician‑prescribed treatments of a routine nature using various ventilatory equipment, both invasive and non‑invasive, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
• Perform chest physiotherapy with promotion of secretion clearance, suctioning, oximetry, and capnography monitoring.
• Conduct routine review of patient chest x‑rays to determine need for further evaluation.
• Perform 12‑lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Perform pulmonary function studies according to policy.
• Assist with respiratory care procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, chest tube placement, etc., where applicable.
• Perform adequate drainage of chest via PleurX catheter or similar device where applicable.
• Provide tracheostomy care according to policy, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes (emergent and non‑emergent).
• Perform arterial puncture, determine ventilation efficiency, and record, monitor, and report test results.
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Insert and remove endotracheal tubes using free‑hand technique and/or video laryngoscope system, where applicable.
• Record all pertinent information of treatments and patient response on respiratory care records and patient chart.
• Communicate with attending physicians and pulmonary physicians concerning the efficiency of therapy administered to the patient.

Minimum Qualifications

• BLS certification required.
• Current state licensure required.
• ACLS required within 6 months of hire (agency RT must have ACLS upon first shift, PRN staff must have ACLS upon hire).

Preferred Qualifications

• Active credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) or state equivalent; RRT preferred.
• One (1) year of related experience preferred.
