Job description

Position Overview

Shift Differentials up to $5 per hour!

The full performance level class works under direction and requires considerable knowledge of respiratory therapy technology to administer inhalation treatments to clients. Employees holding a Temporary Permit may perform duties for one year; those with a Limited Permit may perform duties for the period stipulated for their permit type. All employees with Temporary or Limited Permits must be supervised by a licensed respiratory therapist who is present at the work site or available by telephone at all times. Employees with Temporary or Limited Permits shall not be the sole respiratory therapist on staff at the assigned facility. The employee performs the material and substantial duties of the classification more than 50% of the time.

Summary of Job Duties

  • Administers inhalation treatments using prescribed equipment (e.g., masks, catheters, tents, hoods, pressure devices like those for intermittent positive pressure breathing, resuscitators, ventilators, aerosol therapy) to clients. If holding only a Temporary or Limited Permit, supervision by a licensed respiratory therapist is required, and the employee shall not be the sole respiratory therapist at the facility.
  • Answers emergency pages and maintains client and departmental records as assigned.
  • Conducts in-service training for nurses, physicians, teachers, hospital aides, occupational and physical therapists, recreation therapists, and others as deemed necessary in suctioning, cough and breathing exercises, and postural drainage with chest physiotherapy.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Current license to practice respiratory care in Ohio pursuant to Section 4761.10 of Ohio Revised Code if the facility has only one respiratory therapist on staff.
  • If the facility has one licensed respiratory therapist available for supervision, applicants with a Temporary or Limited Permit issued pursuant to Sections 4761.05 qualify.
  • Alternatively, candidates may meet the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment or provide equivalent evidence.

Supplemental Information

  • Employees working between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am receive a $2 per hour shift differential.
  • A weekend shift differential of $3 per hour applies for hours worked between 6:00 am Saturday and 5:59 am Monday.
  • License renewal, continuing education, and permit requirements must be met as per Section 4761.06 of Ohio Revised Code. Temporary Permit holders must obtain a license within one year. Failure to do so or to satisfy renewal requirements may result in removal from employment.
