Job description

RT protocol is house-wide for any patient older than 13 years old receiving respiratory treatments.

Opportunity to cross-train in PFT/diagnostic services.

Opportunity to insert radial arterial lines after completing required competencies.

Opportunity to apply for the flight team in RT capacity when openings are available.

Level 3 B NICU.

MT pediatric project with 24/7 PICU intensivist coverage.

Hospital-paid time to maintain required certifications, e.g., ACLS, NRP, PALS, BLS.

Equipment includes Siemens servo-I vents in PICU, Drager Babylog vents in NICU, Ikaria INO vents, and I-STAT for POC ABG testing.

Position Description

The Registered Respiratory Therapist provides comprehensive respiratory care, including routine therapy, diagnostics, assessment, and mechanical ventilation to assist with treatments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical and Diagnostic Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and monitor a variety of equipment, including ventilators and devices for administering gases and inhaled medications.
• Perform arterial punctures, arterial line sampling, operate POC ABG instruments, and maintain & clean artificial airways as directed.
• Schedule diagnostic procedures and adjust schedules based on urgent needs, admissions, outpatient walk-ins, and workload fluctuations.

Patient Care and Assessment

• Review patient charts and history before therapy or procedures. Explain procedures to patients.
• Monitor for changes in patient condition or testing needs, collaborating with physicians and nursing staff for adjustments.

Documentation and Communication

• Document therapies, procedures, assessments, medications, equipment charges, and setups. Review outstanding orders and communicate changes to the Lead Therapist.

Qualifications

• Registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care or ability to pass within six months of hire.
• Current licensure by Montana Board of Respiratory Care.
• Current BLS certification.
• Ability to obtain PALS, ACLS & NRP certifications within 12 months.
• Effective communication skills within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
• Computer proficiency and ability to learn relevant applications.
