We are seeking dedicated Respiratory Student Externs to join our team at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. This PRN position offers hands-on experience under the supervision of experienced professionals.

Job Summary and Qualifications

Gain practical experience while still in school! Under the general direction of the Director/Supervisor, the Respiratory Student Technician performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures ordered by a physician.

Responsibilities:

• Provide care for patients across all age groups, from birth to geriatric.
• Administer medical gases, perform aerosol therapy, analyze blood specimens, operate respiratory equipment, assist with CPR, and provide patient education.
• Complete patient documentation accurately in departmental records and computer systems.
• Maintain equipment and adhere to safety and infection control practices.
• Accept additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
• Note: This position does not include providing mechanical ventilation or maintaining artificial airways until graduation from the Respiratory Therapy program.

Qualifications:

• Must obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of employment.
• Must obtain Student Respiratory Care Practitioner certification within 60 days of employment.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
