Summary:
This job is responsible for providing on-site operational leadership and shift management of Dallas RCP staff. Ensures excellent respiratory care by making appropriate assignments to balance workload and by directly supporting RCP's, externs, and support staff assigned to the shift. Provides direct patient care as required to manage volume and required procedures.
Responsibilities:
* Operational Responsibilities:
* Plan for and operationalize resources to meet projected clinical staffing requirements (Know and utilize operational reports such as EPIC workbench, Kronos work force scheduler, Kronos Timecard, etc…) Reports to leadership team every shift operational status of the department.
* Practices financial stewardship in planning and managing resources before and continuously throughout each clinical shift
* Coordinates RCP staffing with other operational leaders on a shift by shift basis
* Works with necessary personnel to address issues by problem solving; escalates as needed to the Respiratory Manager
* on call and/or Respiratory Care Medical Director.
* Understands, adheres and promotes adherence by others to National Patient Safety Goals; hospital, division and department patient safety standards and initiatives.
* Assures timely reporting of events occurring on shift.
* Actively engage in assuring regulatory readiness throughout the shift, including preparing and presenting regulatory readiness education to all clinical staff, and validating staff understanding,
* Seek out opportunities for service excellence and recovery and assure effective actions are taken with a plan for follow-up to closure is in place prior to the end of the assigned shift
* Identify and remove barriers and issues affecting patient flow; including optimum patient placement and facilitating or assisting with internal patient transports
* Resolve respiratory barriers to discharge such as assuring timely parent education and assisting case managers in identifying appropriate respiratory home care equipment
* Monitor and coordinate respiratory equipment management processes to assure sufficient levels of equipment and supplies across Dallas and Legacy and ensure the timely return of rented equipment
* Initiates Respiratory Care Department response for Hospital Incident Command System (HICS)
* Provide initial management of employee performance issues and escalates findings to employee team leader and/or manager.
* Quality Assurance and Process Improvement Responsibilities:
* Actively participate in the development of quality assurance indicators and monitor those within the scope of assigned clinical practice
* Collaborate on a daily basis with members of other disciplines) in process improvement or other multi-disciplinary quality and safety initiatives
* Monitor and promote utilization and adherence to protocols and Clinical Practice Guidelines
* participates in Respiratory Care shared governance councils or assigned hospital committees (Will Chair or Co-chair the Respiratory Care Department's Staffing Committee)
* Responsible for bedside auditing of all Difficult Airway patients and bedside equipment at a frequency prescribed by the respiratory Care Department Director.
* Validates all department patient charges and reconciles against clinical documentation
* Direct Patient Respiratory Care Responsibilities:
* Maintain competencies and confidence in the performance of routine Respiratory Care in all areas. Serve as expert clinical resource including setup of complex delivery systems, respiratory care consults, and educational resource to clinical staff.
* Assist in CPR and other emergency situations including but not limited to obtaining and running arterial blood gases, electrolytes and capillary gases as needed.
* Responsible for all OR and ICU requested flexible Bronchoscopy procedures
* Responsible for all responding to Trauma alert activations.
* Responsible for clinical backup support of ED during high influx of patients and/or multiple trauma patients
* May take small clinical patient assignment to reduce high workload volumes of clinical staff.

* At least 3 years previous pediatric or neonatal respiratory care experience in an acute care hospital setting. Req
EDUCATION
* Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience Req
* Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Pref
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
* Designation as RRT from National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) Req
