Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Michigan seeks a Respiratory Therapist under supervision to assist in administering medical gases and therapies. You will operate and maintain respiratory equipment, monitor patient progress, and educate patients on treatments.

The role supports rounds and patient transport in a hospital setting. Qualified applicants are enrolled in a COARC approved respiratory care program with at least three semesters completed and must have a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Currently enrolled in a CoARC approved respiratory care program with three completed semesters.

Responsibilities

• Assist in administration of prescribed doses of medical gases and setup and administration of therapeutic treatments and aerosolized drugs.
• Use oxygen mixtures with respiratory therapy equipment.
• Assist with patient care rounds.
• Provide and monitor routine oxygen therapy and non-critical patient transports; educate patients as needed.
• Treat patients using chest physiotherapy, aerosol medications, and non-invasive methods such as CPAP/BIPAP therapies.
• Monitor and record progress of treatment; teach patients how to use treatments.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain respiratory equipment; clean and test patient care equipment.
• Restock respiratory supplies and cylinders; pursue education to become a respiratory therapist.

Under the direct supervision of a respiratory therapist, assists in the administration of prescribed doses of medical gases and the set-up and administration of therapeutic treatment and aerosolized drugs to patients. Uses oxygen mixtures in conjunction with therapeutic respiratory therapy equipment.

• Uses oxygen mixtures in conjunction with therapeutic respiratory therapy equipment.
• Assists with patient care rounds per policy.
• Provides and monitors routine oxygen therapy, non-critical patient transports and patient education, as needed.
• Treats patients using a variety of methods including chest physiotherapy, aerosol medications, and non-invasive methods such as CPAP and BIPAP therapies.
• Monitors and records the progress of treatment.
• Teaches patients how to use treatments.
• Operates, calibrates, processes, and maintains respiratory equipment.
• Cleans, reassembles, and performance tests various pieces of patient care equipment.
• Restocks respiratory supplies and cylinders.
• Actively pursues education and training necessary to become a respiratory therapist.
• Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Required:

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Currently enrolled, with successful completion of three semesters, and in good standing with a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved respiratory care program.
