Job summary

McLaren Health Care seeks a per diem Respiratory Therapist to assist in administering prescribed gases and therapies, and to operate and maintain respiratory equipment. You will support patient care rounds and provide education on treatments.

Responsibilities include setting up aerosolized medications, monitoring progress, and restocking supplies. Enrollment in a CoARC-approved program and BLS certification are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Currently enrolled in a CoARC-approved respiratory care program with three semesters completed.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide and monitor routine oxygen therapy and patient education as needed.
• Assist with patient care rounds in accordance with policy.
• Operate, calibrate, test, and maintain respiratory equipment.
• Restock respiratory supplies and cylinders.
• Educate patients on proper use of treatments and equipment.

Job description

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of a respiratory therapist, assists in the administration of prescribed doses of medical gases and the set-up and administration of therapeutic treatment and aerosolized drugs to patients. Uses oxygen mixtures in conjunction with therapeutic respiratory therapy equipment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Assists in the administration of prescribed doses of medical gases and the set-up and administration of therapeutic treatment and aerosolized drugs to patients.
• Uses oxygen mixtures in conjunction with therapeutic respiratory therapy equipment.
• Assists with patient care rounds per policy.
• Provides and monitors routine oxygen therapy, non-critical patient transports and patient education, as needed.
• Treats patients using a variety of methods including chest physiotherapy, aerosol medications, and non-invasive methods such as CPAP and BIPAP therapies.
• Monitors and records the progress of treatment.
• Teaches patients how to use treatments.
• Operates, calibrates, processes, and maintains respiratory equipment.
• Cleans, reassembles, and performance tests various pieces of patient care equipment.
• Restocks respiratory supplies and cylinders.
• Actively pursues education and training necessary to become a respiratory therapist.
• Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Currently enrolled, with successful completion of three semesters, and in good standing with a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved respiratory care program.
• BLS certification.
