University of California- Davis Health is seeking a Respiratory Care Supervisor to lead and coordinate night shift operations, ensuring safe, effective delivery of respiratory care across the medical center. The role encompasses staffing, equipment, and clinical expertise alignment with patient needs under a complex academic health system.
The ideal candidate will hold a California RCP license and an RRT credential, with BLS and PALS, at least 3 years in acute care.
The Respiratory Care Supervisor is a clinical and operational leader who serves as a frontline representative of the Respiratory Care Leadership Team and is accountable for the safe, effective, and reliable delivery of respiratory care across the medical center. Working within a complex academic health system, the Supervisor translates departmental standards, organizational priorities, and professional practice expectations into consistent clinical excellence. The Supervisor provides visible leadership across the assigned shift, ensuring staffing, resources, equipment, and clinical expertise are aligned with patient needs. The Supervisor responds to changing acuity and operational demands, anticipates barriers to care, and takes decisive action when patient safety, service reliability, or team performance is at risk. The Supervisor fosters a culture of accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement by coaching and mentoring staff, providing meaningful feedback, recognizing excellence, and addressing performance concerns. The successful leader demonstrates both clinical authority and servant leadership, setting clear expectations while remaining accessible, supportive, and committed to the success of the team. Through rounding, observation, audit, and data review, the Supervisor ensures compliance with clinical, regulatory, documentation, quality, safety, and operational standards. The Supervisor collaborates with physicians, nursing, and other clinical and operational leaders to resolve complex patient care and system issues. The Supervisor maintains clinical competency and participates in direct patient care as needed while providing leadership across a highly specialized service supporting patients of all ages and acuities, including critical care, neonatal and pediatric care, emergency and trauma services, burn care, advanced mechanical ventilation, and other specialized cardiopulmonary services.
